One week after announcing its closure at Mandarin Gallery, Japanese restaurant Hashida Sushi is set to return.

Hashida Sushi’s chef-owner Kenjiro Hashida will now run his sushi restaurant business under Cloud Eight, a newly incorporated subsidiary of lifestyle group LifeBrandz.

An announcement on the SGX board on Thursday said the new sushi restaurants will open in Singapore, San Francisco and Tokyo in the “near future”.

LifeBrandz declined to reveal further information and said it would announce updates later.

The company was established in 2001 and listed on the SGX in 2004. It has had several changes of chief executive officers and board of directors over the years.

Brands such as Cafe Del Mar in Sentosa, Kandi Bar and Asian club Lunar – both at Clarke Quay – also closed.

In 2015, it shuttered five other outlets in Clarke Quay: gourmet hotdog eatery Hopdog, live music venue Aquanova, Mulligan’s Irish Pub and nightclubs Fenix Room and Playhouse.

LifeBrandz’s current chief executive and executive chairman, Mr Saito Hiroyuki, was appointed in May last year.

Brands under the group now include fintech company Finesse Digital, travel business Takumi Holidays and Mulligan’s bar in Thailand.

Chef Hashida had pitched his idea for expansion to LifeBrandz, noting that the South-east Asian region – including Thailand and Indonesia – has an “amazing growth for fine sushi restaurants”.

He says: “Singapore has always been my home away from home and a great place to start my international base.”
