Google reversed its total ban on all crypto adds, saying it will now allow “regulated” crypto currency exchanges to have adds in USA and Japan on the company’s websites.

“Advertisers will need to be certified with Google for the specific country in which their ads will serve,” the technology giant, owned by Alphabet Inc. said in a statement earlier this week, adding that all crypto exchanges can apply for a certification with Google form the beginning of October.

Currently the only regulatory requirements for the crypto exchanges in the US and Japan are connected with the anti-money laundering regulations. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires all crypto exchanges to probe and register the identities of the individuals, who trade with them.

Google banned all adds promoting crypto currencies and initial coin offerings (ICOs) in June in an effort to protect the public form scammers.

Under the new rules, advertisers, running crypto adds, can be registered all over the world, though the adds will have permission to be shown in the US and Japan only. In addition, advertisers will have to apply for certification by Google in each country separately.

Almost 86% of the total revenue of Alphabet, the company behind Google, comes form advertising. Only for the first 6 moths of 2018 Alphabet reported ad revenue exceeding 54 billion USD.

In June Facebook too started accepting crypto adds selectively.
