Macau | City ranks 5th highest in volume of Alipay transactions during Golden Week

Macau (MNA) – Macau ranks 5th in terms of number of transactions made by mobile payment application Alipay during Golden Week (October 1 to 7), according to data released on Tuesday by Ant Financial, the financial arm of Alibaba Group Holding Limited.

Macau ranked 6th in terms of volume of transactions over the Golden Week last year.

In 2018, Hong Kong topped the list with the most transactions, followed by Thailand, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

During the Golden Week, Alipay processed 2.2 times as many overseas in-store transactions year-on-year.

The average amount spent in a single transaction amounted to RMB1,850 (US$269/MOP2,156).

Statistics released by Ant Financial in September show that the adoption of Alipay by tourists in Macau grew 3.9 times year-on-year, although the average amount spent by tourists fell below global averages.
