TAIPEI (CNA) – Longshan Temple Station on the Taipei MRT system will start selling 5,000 limited edition Lucky Trip tokens Thursday, to mark the Lunar New Year, Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. said Tuesday.

The single trip tokens, priced at NT$50 (US$1.62), will not be retained by the ticket gate when passengers exit the station at the end of their journey, allowing them to be collected, according to the company.

In addition, when passengers buy the tokens they can also have their fortune told in one of three categories – health, love or career – by storing a digital version of a “fortune-telling receipt” on a mobile app by scanning the QR code or printing out the receipt.

Meanwhile, Longshan Temple, a popular tourist destination, will also provide 200 lucky charms free of charge to the first 200 token buyers to present them at the temple.

A limited number of red envelopes will be available free of charge to token buyers at the station’s service counter.

The Lucky Trip tokens will be pink, with the Chinese character Ji (吉), meaning “auspicious,” at the center.

Unlike standard tokens, which allow passengers to travel a fixed distance for a predetermined price, there is no limit to the distance the single trip tokens allow users to travel, according to the company.
