Bitcoin fraud in Khordha: Health staff held by police

Police arrested Shashi Bhushan Behera, an employee of the malaria department of the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) and owner of a cyber cafe, on the charge of duping people of more than Rs  2 crore.

The police swung into action after receiving complaints from many people in this regard.



On August 25, Bijay Kumar Pradhan of Badatota village under the Jatni police limits had lodged a complaint with the police alleging that he was a victim of bitcoin pursued by Shashi. On his complaint, the police was searching for Shashi.

Knowing that Shashi was working at the cyber café on Monday, some duped people nabbed him and handed over to the Khordha Model police.

Among people cheated by Shashi, Ranjit Mandal of Simar has been duped of Rs 23 lakh, Anshuman Das of Bajapur of Rs 2 lakh, Debashish Panda of Khordha of  Rs 7.7 lakh, Shantanu Sethi of Rs 10 lakh, Amiya Patnaik of Rs 1 lakh. They had all invested money in a fraud website to get more money in form of US dollar.

The police are now trying to find out if any other person is involved in the fraud.
