The city and county’s trash and recycling provider, Waste Pro, is issuing new guidelines for pickup to help keep its drivers and the public safe.

In essence, anything not in a bin will not be picked up to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

“This week, Waste Pro moved to a touch-free collection system for household garbage, in coordination with both the county and the city,” wrote Waste Pro Spokeswoman Sandi Poreda in an email.

“This means Waste Pro drivers and helpers will not pick up household garbage items placed next to garbage and recycling bins; all items for collection should be placed inside the bins.”

Bulk and yard waste collection operations in the county has not changed but with more cases popping up around the state, “the situation is fluid,” Poreda said. Nine cases have been confirmed in Leon County.

Waste Pro recently renewed its contract with the county with the promise to improve its level of service.
